Our Year 11s enjoyed an enriching day out at Poetry Live, hosted at The Dome, Brighton. It was a fantastic opportunity for students to get out of the classroom and experience live poetry read by celebrated poets from their GCSE syllabus, including Simon Armitage, Carol Ann Duffy, Imtiaz Dharker and John Agard.
Our students represented PACA beautifully, engaging with the speakers, asking questions and even joining in a rap song! It was an inspiring event that we hope will stay with them well into their adult lives.
One Y11 who attended the trip commented: "As a GCSE student who studies both creative subjects and practical subjects, I must admit that without poetry, school life would be very boring. One of the best experiences I've ever had was going to The Dome and hearing the poets recite their poems with enthusiasm. Seeing over 300 different students buzz with excitement and listen very carefully to each word that the poets said made me realise that we wouldn't be ourselves without a bit of poetry in our lives. Why does our society value money over creativity?"
Ms Bradley, Vice Principal, who attended, commented "the students were so well behaved, respectful and attentive. The teachers have done such a great job bringing the poets and their poetry to life, well done all".
