Enterprising Skills at Portslade Aldridge Community Academy
At PACA, developing enterprising skills and an entrepreneurial mindset is central to our mission of preparing students for success in school, work and life. These skills empower young people to become proactive, confident and creative problem‑solvers who can thrive in an ever‑changing world.
Our approach is grounded in the Aldridge Attributes, six key qualities that underpin every aspect of academy life and are recognised and celebrated throughout the year.

How We Develop Enterprising Skills at PACA
Enterprising skills are woven into the curriculum, enrichment programme, and wider school culture. PACA’s entrepreneurial ethos is part of a wider Aldridge Education vision that emphasises acquiring qualifications and the enterprising qualities needed for future opportunities.
Students engage in:
- Every term students compete in interhouse PE competitions
- One of our KS3 enrichment options is "The Apprentice". Ms Meredith who is also a local business owner guides students through product design and pitch, culminating in a presentation to a panel to be crowned winner!
Projects with local businesses, giving students real‑world experience and insight into enterprise.
-
Partnerships with Southern Water and EDF Energy through the Love Local Jobs "Dare to Dream" programme in year 9 & 10
-
Benfield Valley Conservation project linked to environmentalism
-
Brighton and Hove Albion Foundation Social Enterprise projects
-
A range of employer encounters through our year 10 jobs fair, including local businesses such as Good Law Solicitors, NHS, PMC Construction, Mackley Coastal Engineers, PWC, Setfords Solicitors, Leonardo Hotels, Grove Lodge Vets, Brighton Dome, SIGTA Training,
Charity fundraising events giving students the opportunity to demonstrate enterprise skills while raising money for local causes.
