Social Action Committee

Social Action Committee

The Social Action Committee was launched at PACA in September 2013 and actively encourages students to help charitable organisations in the local community and around the world.

The students chair and manage the organisation.

It is an excellent way to encourage good will and take ownership, while helping raise awareness of local, national and global community needs.

Our Mission Statement

The Social Action Committee is an organisation of students from Portslade Aldridge Community Academy.

It is our mission to work together to make a real difference both in our local community and around the world.

Our aim is to raise awareness, take responsibility and make a difference to those less fortunate than ourselves.

We regularly fundraise for charitable organisations and believe that we can make a real change.

We are inspired by this quote:

Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has.

Margaret Mead

In May 2015, the Social Action Committee were awarded Charity Achievement of the Year in The Argus Youth in Action Awards, held at Sussex Cricket Ground.

After being shortlisted to three, the Argus chose the Academy due to the record-breaking number of nominations they received for PACA for this category. Having raised thousands of pounds for local and national charities from Macmillan’s UK work in cancer research to the city’s Martlets Hospice, the Social Action Committee were a deserved winner ahead of the competition.

The academy was also awarded Youth in Action Community School of the Year 2016 for all its community efforts and most Improved School of the Year 2017.

The SAC meet on a regular basis and over the past academic year have raised thousands of pounds for charities and organisations, ranging from supporting the global Nepal earthquake appeal to providing food for the Lost Cats Brighton charity based in Mile Oak.
