PE

Aims & Objectives

To develop students understanding in the importance of leading a life long healthy lifestyle and to experience a range of physical activities.  To ensure that students enjoy learning and make progress.  To achieve success and make a positive contribution to society.

Curriculum

We provide a high quality PE curriculum enabling students to experience a broad and balanced range of physical activities.  Students will develop a variety of skills, knowledge and creative ideas.  Students are encouraged to make and apply decisions and make informed choices about leading a healthy lifestyle.  Our PE curriculum will help students develop socially and personally and provide them with a confidence to take on varied roles and responsibilities.

Assessment KS3

Students are assessed with an attainment level every half term based on their knowledge and understanding of the following areas:-

  • outwitting opponents
  • accurate replication
  • exploring and communicating ideas, emotions and concepts
  • performing at maximum levels
  • identifying and solving problems
  • exercising safely and effectively

Assessment KS4

In year 10 & 11 students can opt for the following two courses:-

  • National Certificate Sport (Level 2) – equivalent of 4 GCSEs
  • National Award Sport (Level 2) – equivalent of 2 GCSEs

National Sport Award Information

The aims of these courses are to develop students understanding of the sporting industry.  They provide students with high quality, industry relevant qualifications and develop skills and gain understanding to support entry into work or progression to further studies.  The course is assessed on a balance of on going coursework and practical assessment.

Assessment KS5

In year 12 & 13 students have the opportunity to continue the course into Level 3.

Extra Curricular Opportunities

We provide opportunities for all students to enjoy and take part in a range of sports.  Students are also encouraged to get involved in a variety of competitive opportunities including inter-House competitions and inter-school competitions against other local schools.
