My Work Experience as a Waitress
I spent my week’s work experience in the restaurant ‘The Buccaneer’. I obtained this experience by visiting local shops and cafes to see if anyone would like me to help them for a week.
At my first day at work, someone else welcomed me, showed me everything and introduced me to the other staff. All of them were very friendly and always helped me with my questions.
Monday morning was quiet so I had enough time to get used to everything and serve the first drinks to the customers. In the afternoon one of my colleagues asked if I wanted to take my first order but I was a bit shy so we took it together. She showed me how to type it in the system and after a few minutes, I took the next order by myself. Therefore, it was the perfect day for me to have a go at being a waitress for the first time.
Tuesday was not that busy but all my colleagues cheered each other up by joking together, which was funny. Wednesday was not that busy either but as soon as we had one hour of sunshine it was enough to get customers in and have a little bit of fun. I also helped to close the restaurant in terms of cashing up and tidying away.
Thursday and Friday were very busy. With beautiful sunshine from the morning until the evening, we had a lot to do. We constantly worked until there was a minute of calm and we could have a free lunch from the menu, which our boss gave us every day.
Even if it was exhausting to be on my feet all day, I was still able to work with a smile on my face with thanks to my colleagues and customers who were all lovely and forgave me when I spilt a few drinks.
This was a fantastic opportunity for me and I would love to go back and work there again as there was such an inviting and friendly atmosphere.
